Mendoza is famous around the world for its wine, but it’s also one of the best places in Argentina to enjoy the outdoors with your family. Whether you're traveling with young kids, teens, or grandparents, there are many safe and fun ways to explore nature together. From short hiking trails to relaxing days by the lake, Mendoza has something for everyone.
1. Family Hiking in the Andes
You don’t need to be a mountain expert to enjoy the Andes. Mendoza offers many easy trails where families can walk, breathe fresh air, and enjoy stunning views.
Sendero Villavicencio: This is a nature reserve located only 50 km from Mendoza city. There are short trails through native forest, old ruins, and even a chance to spot guanacos (a local animal similar to a llama).
Sendero El Salto (Potrerillos): This is a great option for families with older kids. The trail leads to a beautiful waterfall, and the hike takes about 2–3 hours round trip. Don’t forget your camera!
2. Picnic and Playtime in the Parks
If you're not up for hiking, Mendoza has many parks where kids can run, play, and explore while the adults relax.
General San Martín Park: Located right in the city, this huge park has lakes, bike paths, playgrounds, and plenty of space for a picnic. You can also climb the Cerro de la Gloria, a short walk with a panoramic view of the city.
Lake Potrerillos: Just one hour from Mendoza, this is a perfect place to spend the day. You can swim, rent a kayak, or just sit by the water with a snack.
3. Recommended: Water and Adventure Park – Cacheuta Hot Springs
Location: 40 km west of Mendoza city, on the Río Mendoza
🎒 For kids 7 and up: Try the zip line or enjoy splashy fun in interactive pools and slides made for the little ones.
🌟 All activities are supervised and family-safe:
🪂 Zip Line (Tirolesa): Soar over the river with two exciting stretches — 160 m and 60 m long!
🌲 Tree Adventure (Arborismo): Cross wobbly bridges, rope tunnels, and treetop walkways in a 14-part course full of nature and fun!
🧗♂️ Rock Rappel: Carefully descend a 37–38 m cliff face with expert guides — a big adventure for brave hearts!
🌊 Rafting: Paddle down 5 km of the Mendoza River (gentle class I–II rapids), great for beginners!

Final Thoughts
Spending time in nature is one of the best ways to connect as a family. In Mendoza, you’ll find that the landscapes invite you to slow down, look around, and enjoy each other’s company. Whether it’s your first hike or just a day in the park, every moment outdoors in Mendoza is one to remember.
Tips for a Great Family Day Outdoors:
Bring water and sun protection (Mendoza is sunny almost all year!)
Wear comfortable shoes for walking
Pack some snacks or a picnic
Check weather conditions, especially if you’re going into the mountains
Take it slow and enjoy the journey—Mendoza is all about the experience
